____

Mechanics is the mobile image of architectonic, moving architecture, capable of supporting and withstanding movement.
1. Aristotle is primarily an architect and not a mechanic, despite his unprecedented mechanical theory of the transmission of motion starting from the unmoved mover. Newton is primarily a mechanic and not an architect, even though the inverse square law is the definitive unchangeable algorithm with which God built the universe. To be an architect it is necessary hypotheses fingere – only a hypothesis can give unity and significance to an architectural solution. To be a mechanic, it is necessary hypotheses non fingere: any hypothesis would compromise the aseptic mechanicalness of the mechanism – the mechanism is ab-solutum, that is, not binding to any hypothesis: it is self-sustaining, it is a totally autonomous totality. Stability is the mark of architecture, functionality the mark of mechanics.
     2. Functional stability however and stable functionality are respectively the implicit destiny of architecture and mechanics: a precarious functionality does not guarantee the indefinite repeatability of the function, which is an binding condition for mechanicalness. A non-functional stability does not interact with anything else and with the context, it is pure immobility which, having no purpose and therefore no reason to exist, will always condemn itself to irrelevance. If that is the case, then mechanics will be the mobile image of architectonic and architecture will be the immobile image of mechanics, just as time, platonically, is the mobile image of eternity and, conversely, eternity is the immobile image of time.
It doesn’t probably mean that architectonic is to mechanics as eternity is to time, but it seems indisputable that architectonic is to eternity as mechanics is to time.
