The se movens is not the final stage in the chain of furtherness of motion.
There is at least one further stage, which is the determination of the se movens to movere seipsum and then to cease that movere se Ipsum: a motion that begins (or ceases) a motion.
That the initiating motion leads to motion in a single movens does not save it from infinite reference.
For this reason, the only possibility to escape the usual trap of  an infinite in act is that of infinite act – God. God is the only possible se movens because He is not moved by motion but is always in motion – He is the Aristotelian act that is also aristotelically pure. Or better, e contrario, the only possible definitive se movens is what we call God.
Mechanics, arising with Modernity, further simplified pure act by identifying the totality of the mobile-motum – the Totality – with the se movens: Totality as machine of perpetual motion and machine moving itself by perpetual motion. It is amusing that thermodynamics has become an interpreter of theological despair, reopening the perspective of a non-mechanical pure act.
It goes without saying that if mechanical perpetual motion is possible, it is possible only for Totality, that is, for a Mechanical Totality without residues: perpetuity demands rigorous totality. What the first and second principles of thermodynamics perhaps do not sufficiently consider is the complexity of the Total Machine.
It cannot be concluded, even from the examination of all possible parts, that the Totality of the parts has the same properties as the parts themselves, only on an infinitely larger scale. This would amount to stating that Totality is simply a higher-order part, namely the part that includes all parts. Therefore, the application of the two principles of thermodynamics to all possible machines does not imply that they hold true for the Total Machine, if such a Total Machine actually exists.
Even less convincing is the theory of an initial endowment of energy that the Total Machine, unable of perpetual motion, would dissipate until its own thermal death. It is very reminiscent of mechanical clock that exhausts its charge. It is even more amusing that this theory directly leads to revisiting the theological hypothesis of the theological kick by which God started the world’s motion:  set in motion, the world will then function until vis impressa of the divine kick is totally dissipated due.
That the things are in motion should already widely and convincingly prove that Totality is capable of seipsam movere, unless we give credence to natural histories like the Big Bang or hypothesize states of things that are in principle unverifiable.
From this, it is a very short step to affirm that Mechanical Totality is ultimately the pure act of Modernity, progressively replacing the pure act of natural theology.
The theological risk in case Mechanical Totality should be also an automaton is evidently high.
However, a theology of motion truly smells of ridicule.
