27. Bianconevo e le sette nane – Mr. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfesses

Quindi siamo daccapo. La favola rimane strutturalmente sessista.
Urgono provvedimenti più radicali per de-sessistizzare Biancaneve.
Proviamo allora a invertire i ruoli.
Intanto il perfido patrigno scopre l’inganno e passa all’azione.

Snow White is a sexist fairy tale, says film director Paola Cortellesi indignantly, because the nice princess acts as a nurse to the seven dwarfs.
Commentary of unprecedented depth that dwarfs Propp’s structuralist approach to the morphology of the fairy tale. Miracles of luck at the box office…
Instinctively I would consider that no one in the fairy tale asks Snow White to do it (and – incidentally – a woman, who tidies up where you don’t need, is a problem, not a conquest). However, this could also be the result of a sexist upbringing imposed by the mother (when she was alive) and then by the stepmother when the mother went in a better place – both women and both sexist too. So, nothing to do.
So I could think of a version of Snow White in which the seven dwarfs are the nurses of Snow White, so we can get the accusation of sexism out of our way. Would we have cured Snow White of the disease of sexism? Absolutely not. The role of nice girl who needs a Prince Charming is even more sexist: since when does a modern, socially self-aware, politically correct and left-wing woman need a paternalistic and chauvinist male in order to be a modern, socially self-aware, politically correct and left-wing woman?
So, we’re back where we started. The fairy tale remains structurally sexist.
More radical measures are urgently needed to de-sexist Snow White.
So let’s try to reverse the roles.
Prince Charming is persecuted by his stepfather because the mirror on the wall tells him that the young is a budding Rocco Siffredi who undermines his primacy as the dominant alpha stallion. An emancipated huntress is appointed to end him up badly, but in the end, she is moved and spares him. The prince flees into the woods and arrives to a small house inhabited by seven dwarfesses who work in a mine (to say that they crochet would seem sexist, so let’s leave the mine) and as soon as he arrives, while the seven dwarfesses are at work, he starts repairing the sink drain, putting oil on the door hinges, cleaning the chimney, etc. The seven dwarfs arrive, get to know each other and for a while they live together happily with the prince – whom, obviously, they will wickedly use as a toy boy as well as a plumber.
Meanwhile, the perfidious stepfather discovers the deceit and comes into action. To avoid being recognized, he drinks a magic potion that transforms him from a rude dominant stallion into a refined Swinburne-style dandy, dedicated to the practice of vice anglais. He reaches the detested prince with the poisoned apple and makes him eat it. He drops dead and the dwarfesses put him in a crystal coffin, leaving the coffin in plain sight in the woods. One day Snow White passes by on horseback, falls in love with him, kisses him, resurrects him, marries him, and they live happily ever after, etc., while the perfidious stepfather comes to a bad end (there are various versions).
Is it better this way? I doubt it. It would be sexism in reverse, committed intellectuals would say, while dedicating to the practice of vice anglais since they are convinced that we males deserve to be dominated by a Princess Charming so that we expiate our chauvinist and patriarchal sins.
So, how is it possible to make Snow White fairy tale non-sexist?
We will probably have to work on a version in which the stepmother, Snow White, the seven dwarfs and Prince Charming are all gender fluid. Better yet hermaphrodites, such as snails and earthworms. We suggest Mrs Cortellesi to make her next movie on this interesting subject. But Snow White exorcised, why to stop? Doesn’t Princess Aurora have an equal right to a de-sexist fairy tale? And all the others?
And aren’t the Iliad and the Odyssey also brutally sexist-chauvinist-patriarchal? Can we pretend nothing happened? And isn’t there perhaps some chauvinist and patriarchal sexism implicit in the big bang theory and the microwave oven, which should be denounced?
Huge job that will fall to the joyous war machine of the organic intelligentsia of future progressivism.
However, there are cheaper alternatives. The first is also to read some other books in addition to those of Michela Murgia. I suggest Ressentiment. Das Ressentiment im Aufbau der Moralen, by a certain Max Scheler, who teaches us to be wary of indignation.
The second, even cheaper, could be to avoid talking nonsenses. Even if they bring a lot of free advertising.
