A = x : (x. (a,b,c,d…n)) y

4. The peak of numerical sapientiality is say the things in terms of statistic.
It is the definitive and explicit admission of not knowing how, and not being able, to say the thing itself — and consequently, a renunciation of any attempt to say the thing as a thing and, as a further consequence, the impossibility of considering the thing as a thing.
With statistics, one merely records the reaction of a thing to a known and given set of conditions. Under constant contextual conditions, for an indefinitely expandable number of times, things considered identical in some relevant aspect (or the same thing repeated an indefinitely expandable number of times) are placed within that context, and identical reactions are classified and numbered.
Normally, it is not even necessary to classify the reactions, because the thing and the context are arranged in such a way that the reaction is always the same. At that point, the reaction defines the thing — about which nothing can be said by any other means: the thing A is that x which, under conditions (a, b, c, d…n), gives rise to y.
Formalized, for what it’s worth:
A = x : (x. (a, b, c, d…n)) → y
Nothing can be said about x except that, when placed in the context a, b, c, d…n, it gives rise to y. At this point, one no longer speaks of x, but of A, and A, due to the impossibility of saying anything about x, takes x’s place.
What can be affirmed statistically about the thing replaces the thing itself.
5. The thing reduced to a numerical unit that fulfills a function by always producing the same result is, in the end, a renunciation of the thing.
This, however, does not prevent the manipulation of the thing. In fact, reducing the thing to what can be said about it statistically — to what can be said in the context of a construction entirely dependent on us — makes the thing significantly more docile.
The complete annihilation of the manipulated object makes manipulation totally free, and since the manipulated has already been reduced to its manipulability, the manipulated is its being-manipulable.
Bridgman’s operationalism is the crowning of the neopositivist dream: in physics, the use — that is, manipulation — defines the thing.
Thus, the thing is in the total and irrevocable availability of the one who manipulates it. And what measures its definition is not the what-it-is of the thing, but the ease with which it can be manipulated.
6. The irrelevance of the things with respect to the configurations we have built in order to dominate them is the culmination of the path inaugurated by Galileo.
And it is the demonstration — perhaps trivial, but not sapientially self-evident — that it is not necessary to define the thing based on the thing itself in order to manipulate it.
In fact, the two coordinates are inversely proportional: respecting the what-it-is of the thing drastically reduces its manipulability.
This is what we call technique. Galilean sapientiality is the sapientiality of technique, because every form of technique implies the renunciation of what Galileo called the attempt to grasp the essence.
The question of why things allow themselves to be manipulated is ill-posed: to manipulate does not mean to arbitrarily dispose of the things, but simply to manipulate things in the form and to the extent that they can be manipulated — to discover and codify the manipulable side of the things.
How much the manipulable side of a thing coincides with the what-it-is of the thing is a question we have given up resolving since Galileo’s warning. And from there, the step to identifying the what-it-is of the thing with its manipulable aspect is immediate.
